The name doesn't refer to our fest being an "in" thing.People sometimes take
it that way and ask if it's okay if they come. Yes, come! The name comes from a newspaper item some years ago about some fundamentalists' objections to Kaleidoscope at Whispering Pines, complaining that the countryside was already infested with witches. (News to us.) But our memory had played tricks on us. When we looked it up a couple of years later, we found that the wording was "thick with witches". We gave only a nano-second's thought to changing the name to Thick Fest... The location is the original Kaleidoscope venue. K-fest in those days was "Mini-fest" The fest soon outgrew the name...and these grounds. Sometimes, as an echo, we refer to our current fest here as "micro-fest" - but just because it's small and cozy, and the land can't support a Kaleidoscope-sized fest, doesn't mean you shouldn't come. COME! Infest the countryside! Every Labour Day weekend. $70 for a couple or family $40 single $20 day pass $10 each performance if you just attend the concerts Directions |

for the Pagan community from 1986 to 2005. Kerr was awarded the Shield of Valor by the Witches League for Public Awareness.
Kerr is the author of the Law Enforcement Guide to Wicca, Witch Hunts,Wiccan Warrior,

Magickal Self Defense. Kerr has a column with 182 articles on anti-defamation issues and hate crimes on The Witches' Voice web site
called Witch Hunts. His latest book,
Modern Knighthood,
is now a Smashwords ebook. He is the co author of a safety book
for social workers and nurses: Safe Approach.
Kerr is also the author of Ancient Recipes for Modern Kitchens, a cookbook
of ancient recipes. He is starting to write fantasy fiction now also.
Kerr is the former Preceptor General of Officers of Avalon, an organization representing Neo-Pagan professionals in the emergency services (police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians). Kerr retired from the Vancouver Police Department in November 2005 after serving 29 years with them. He was awarded the Governor General's Exemplary Service Medal. Kerr's past job assignments within the VPD include the Emergency Response Team, Hostage Negotiator, Child Abuse Investigator, Gang Crime Unit, and the Mental Health Emergency Services Unit. Kerr is currently working as a police dispatcher and trainer for ECOMM for Southwestern BC. Kerr is the Grand Master and founder of a Wiccan order of Knighthood called the Order of Scathach in Surrey, British Columbia in October 2007. The Order is now a registered society in the province of British Columbia and the sponsor of Vancouver Pagan Pride. The Order of Scathach embraces the Warrior philosophies, precepts and code of chivalry outlined in Kerr's books. The Order of Scathach is a study group for people interested in Wiccan magick, energy work and rituals related to the Warrior path, focusing on empowerment, personal development and creative expression. The training focuses on the effective use of magickal energy and developing psychic skills. The Order of Scathach is constantly developing new rituals, and magick and studying our Warrior philosophy. Our members are spread across the globe and connect through local preceptories and on line. Kerr says:- I would like to do a number of classes: Modern Knighthood: Modern Knighthood completes the cycle begun with Kerr's earlier books on Warrior philosophy: Wiccan Warrior, Full Contact Magick and Magickal Self Defense. Modern Knighthood is about personal empowerment and self mastery. This class brings all of the philosophy of the warrior together, introducing the cycles of training that interlock with the cycles of the seasons that lead the student through initiatory experiences resulting in self realization and self mastery. Modern Knighthood outlines the 13 Precepts and Code of Chivalry of knighthood, including seasonal cycles and warrior rituals. Modern knights honor themselves and the world around them. Magickal Self Defense: Learn how to master the energy all around you to become a true magickal Warrior. Based on Wiccan principles, this class combines modern quantum theory with warding techniques to provide you with a strong foundation in the workings of self-protective magick. Discover how to cultivate full awareness of the infinite energy potential in the universe to achieve magickal powers of self-defense. Learn to redirect negative energy, focus your intention, reach backward in time to affect future outcomes, and protect yourself against psychic attack. Perfect for either the beginning or advanced magickal practitioner. Full Contact Magick: How to raise and direct magickal energy easily and instantly. In Karate there is an old adage: "Chi follows I" (energy follows intent). This reads like a definition of magick, doesn't it? Full Contact Magick is understanding how to fully access and use your magickal energy. I'd also like to do an Armoring ritual, which is a warrior dedication ritual that my Order of Scathach performs at public events and which I've presented at quite a few other major Pagan gatherings. You can see photos of one of these rituals on my Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150635104465117.685624.760800116&saved |

Rough camping. Pick up a wheelbarrow
or dolly at the end of the lane and haul your camping equipment a few hundred yards to the camping spots.
Portapotty and a snazzy outhouse. Due to fire concerns, we require cooking to be done at the fire pit. There are tables there and a cold-water tap. There's a hot shower in a vine arbor up by the house. This year we're also going to try out a propane-heated shower in the camping area. Bring your own food (and take away your own garbage - there's no collection here, and we have to haul stuff to the local dump in our passenger car...so PLEASE). There's a corner store in the village 3 km away for basics and ice. A neighbor just down the road will have a tea-room with goodies in walking distance. Swimming? You can wade in our swamp if you want, but we recommend you hop in your car and go to the public beach a couple of km away. Since it's public, no pubic allowed - bring your swimsuits. |

3 Km West of McDonalds Corners on County Road 12. From Montreal - 417 to and thru Ottawa, taking Toronto/Carleton Place exit onto 7. Go to and thru Carleton Place, to Perth. At 4th stop-light on highway at Perth, turn right onto 511 and go thru Balderson (stopping for ice-cream) and continuing to Lanark. Just inside Lanark, at T-junction, turn left and continue on that winding road. DO NOT TURN AT THE BANK! This is County 12, which goes to McDonalds Corners, and InFest is 3 km further on, on the right (#6378). 3 1/2 hours if you drive like a maniac. From Ottawa - take Queensway to Toronto/Carleton Place exit and then as above. A little over 1 hr. From Toronto - 401 to Tweed/Madoc exit and go on 37 to 7 (shortest route between 401 and 7). Turn right onto 7 and go east, thru Kaladar, Sharbot Lake and Silver Lake. After Silver Lake watch for Maberly on the left. First exit easy to miss - it's okay, few yards further is a bigger exit with restaurant, 'country store' and coffee kiosk. Go through Maberly and along a curving road that finally gets you to the hamlet of Elphin and a flashing yellow light. Keep on straight thru the yellow light and you are on County 12, and after a few miles you'll come to InFest on your left (#6378). 4 or 5 hours...but it'll be worth it! Kingston people - you know how to get here - 31 to 7 to Maberly, etc. |
